Presenter Síle Ní Bhraonáin - Cliffs of Moher

Presenter Síle Ní Bhraonáin – Cliffs of Moher

TG4’s Féilte programme continues its nine-week tour of the 2,500 kilometre Wild Atlantic Way by featuring County Clare next week.

On Thursday, August 7th, presenter Síle Ní Bhraonáin will present a feast of finest traditional music, song and dance, local cuisine and adventure activities – and she discovers some of the secret gems in the towns and villages along the route, as well as some spectacular scenery.

Síle drops in to Friel’s (also known as Lynch’s) pub in the Willie Clancy festival town of Miltown Malbay, where we are entertained by renowned musicians, Edel Fox, Therese McInerney, Marian Curtin, Deirdre O’Brien and Cian Talty, who all come from local families steeped in traditional Irish music. Seán Óg O’Malley, who also comes from a family of celebrated local musicians, sings for us, accompanied by Cian Talty on tin whistle. And Clare sean-nós dancer, Eoin Marrinan, performs for us accompanied by Edel Fox on concertina.

Síle also visits the famous Strand restaurant in the seaside resort of Kilkee where owner and chef Johnny Redmond shows us how to prepare a mouth-watering Wild Atlantic Way dish of Flash-Fried Garlic & Red Chilli Tiger Prawns served on slices Of Crunchy Warm Crostini with fresh summer leaves.

Féilte also journeys to Inis Oírr, the smallest of the Aran Islands and the closest to County Clare, where 17 year old local Eibhlín Ní Chatháin, who is at least a fourth generation islander, tells us of her love of and pride in her native place, and what it’s like for a 21st century teenager to grow up on an island off our Atlantic coast.

And finally, in our weekly exploration of exciting activities available in this part of the Wild Atlantic Way, we accompany Edel Ní Mhacháin and Fiona Ní Eochaidh, both from Clare, as they go abseiling off the cliffs in Kilkee, with Nevsails Watersports and Rock Climbing.

You can see Féilte on TG4 on Thursdays at 8:30pm, and online at http://www.tg4.ie.
