Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances of the incident

A County Clare man who was the victim of a serious assault in Limerick City earlier this week is fighting for his life in hospital.

The 25-year-old, who is understood to be from Newmarket on Fergus, sustained serious head injuries in the assault which took place in the Ennis Road area of the City on Tuesday night.

He is currently being treated at Cork University Hospital (CUH) where he is reported to be in a critical condition.

A woman was questioned in connection with the incident at Mayorstone Garda Station during Thursday.

Gardaí have launched a full investigation into the incident.
