Two men are recovering in hospital following a fire at a house in Corofin which gardaí are treating as suspicious.

A man in his 80’s was rescued by his son from the house at Gort Road shortly after 8.00am.

The fire was confined to the front door area but didn’t spread inside. The property did suffer severe smoke damage.

Three units of the fire brigade and two ambulances from Ennis responded to the incident. Fire service first responders treated the pensioner and one of two men who helped rescue him.

After being treated with oxygen the men were taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
