Shannon Airport has tonight been named winner of one of 12 award categories at the Irish Tourism Industry Awards in Dublin.

Organised and presented by the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation, ITIC’s industry members, Fáilte Ireland, and Tourism Ireland, the awards recognise people, companies and organisations that have made significant contributions to developing, marketing, selling and delivering improved visitor experiences in Ireland and to increasing the number of visitors from overseas.

Shannon Airport beat off competition from Aer Lingus, Air Canada Vacations, Dublin Airport / DAA, Irish Ferries and The Travel Corporation to win the Best International Access Initiative category.

There was no joy for the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark, Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience or Doolin Cave however, who were each shortlisted in the Best Environmental Tourism Innovation. That category was won by Boora Discovery Park in Offaly.

‘The Giant’s Journey’, the headline event during Limerick National City of Culture also missed out in the Best Festival / Event Experience category losing to The American Football Croke Park Classic.
