Clare’s Top Restaurants Named

The top restaurants in County Clare were announced earlier this week at the Munster Regional Final of the Irish Restaurant Awards which took place at The Strand Hotel in Limerick.

Over four-hundred restaurant owners and staff celebrated their hard work and achievements at the Awards, which saw many well-known restaurateurs in Munster attend the function to see if they had picked up one of the prestigious awards on offer.

Food outlets were nominated under the categories of Best Restaurant, Best Chef, Best Restaurant Manager, Best Hotel Restaurant, Best Casual Dining, Best Gastro Pub, Best Customer Service, Best Newcomer, Best Wine Experience, Best Emerging Irish Cuisine, Best Kids Size Me and Local Food Hero.

Lisdoonvarna food outlet Wild Honey Inn was named Best Restaurant in the Banner County. The Cloister in Ennis picked up not one but two food awards as it scooped the accolade for Best Gastro Pub and Best Wine Experience.

David Hurley of The Dining Room at Gregans Castle Hotel was named Clare’s Best Chef and he was in good company as renowned television chef Paul Flynn secured the title as Waterford’s Best Chef. There was further joy for the Ballyvaughan Castle as The Dining Room as it was chosen for Best Customer Service.

Shannigan’s Gastro Pub at The Inn at Dromoland was entitled Best Newcomer at the event. Its sister hotel a couple of miles north did not go unrecognised for their efforts as The Earl of Thomond at Dromoland Castle Hotel was crowned Best Hotel Restaurant. For Best Casual Dining, L’Arco Italian Restaurant in Ballyvaughan came out trumps.

Speaking at the awards last night, Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland Adrian Cummins said; “The Irish Restaurant Awards celebrate their seventh year this year and have become the Island’s biggest food awards. The credibility that these awards have is reflected in the amount of nominations they received this year- over 30,000 votes were cast across twelve categories, showing that these are the awards that everyone wants to win”.

Cummins added “The Irish restaurant scene is internationally recognised for its high calibre of restaurateurs and chefs. These awards celebrate the people that make the restaurant sector the dynamic and exciting industry it is. They are the people who provide 72,000 jobs to our economy and generate revenue in excess of €2 billion. We’re recognising the talent, hard work and commitment that everyone here gives to the food industry. Tonight, everyone is a winner.”

All County winners now compete for the Regional and All Ireland titles which will be announced at the Irish Restaurant Awards in the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel, Dublin on Monday 25th May, 2015.
