A section of the West Clare town of Kilkee wass closed to traffic for a time on Sunday morning after torrential overnight rain resulted in flash flooding.

A band of heavy rain affected Clare in the early hours of the morning led to spot flooding in the East End area of the town.

The worst affected locations was in the vicinity of Kilkee Waterworld where a nearby stream burst its banks.

Clare County Fire and Rescue Service says crew from the Kilkee Fire Brigade were in attendance this morning. Clare County Council said the road reopened to traffic shortly after lunchtime as soon as the waters receded.

Met Éireann says drier brighter conditions will spread across Ireland during Sunday. There will be some scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle tomorrow in coastal parts before drier but cooler weather takes hold for the remainder of the week.
