Elderly farmer injured in west Clare

An elderly man has been airlifted to hospital following a farm accident in Co Clare.

The man in his 80’s is understood to have sustained serious injuries after he was struck by a tractor.

The alarm was raised at around 4.00pm and an ambulance was sent to the scene near Kilbaha on the Loop Head Peninsula.

Paramedics requested a helicopter to airlift the man to hospital.

The Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard was sent to prepare a safe landing site for the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter.

Volunteers also assisted HSE paramedics to transport the casualty to the helicopter.

The injured man was airlifted to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
