Ronan Cahill (age 10) and Conor Farrell (age 10) from Scoil Mhuire National School, Corofin in Co. Clare received a prize in the special needs and 3rd and 4th class categories respectively at the recent Sightsavers Junior Painter of the Year Awards.

The students were awarded for their paintings, Ronan’s painting entitled ‘I want you to see my portable house’ and Conor’s painting entitled ‘I want you to see Morgan, my crazy elephant’.

The winners were unveiled in The Science Gallery, Dublin where they were joined by TV3 presenter Sheana Keane.

Over 5000 budding young artists from over 200 primary schools from every corner of the country entered this annual art competition, devised by Sightsavers to inspire Irish children to express their artistic talent through painting whilst developing an appreciation of the importance and value of their sight.

The 15 winners were selected to make the exciting trip to Dublin to receive their prizes and to see if they would be the overall Sightsavers Junior Painter of the year Awards winner. The paintings will be exhibited in the Powerscourt Centre in Dublin until Sunday 19th April.
