Irish Water to begin reading meters

waterIrish Water will tomorrow start reading meters throughout County Clare in advance of sending out their first round of bills.

The water meter visits will take place at the same time as the names and addresses of an estimated 100,000 local authority tenants throughout Ireland are forwarded to Irish Water.

Clare County Council is writing to 2,300 tenants to inform them that their name and address details are being provided to Irish Water to enable Irish Water to validate accounts and charge households for water as a utility.

Irish Water requested Clare County Council to provide the tenant data under Section 26 of the Water Services Act 2013, which the Local Authority says it is legally obliged to comply with.
