Chole Morey hit 2-09 as Clare saw off Derry at Owenbeg yesterday, it was the home side that struck first with Teresa McElroy opening the scoring after some fine build-up play by Karen Kielt and Louise Duggan.

Clare responded when Vera Loughnane cut through the Derry defence before pointing and Morey opened her scoring account from the placed ball to give her side a one point lead.
Ailish Considine and Fiona Lafferty both added points to open Clare’s lead to three before Karen Kielt hit back for Derry.

The home side continued to press forward and had several half chances on goal but Teresa McElroy and substitute Dervla O’Kane saw their efforts smothered by Laura McMahon and Aoife Griffin.

Morey and Kielt exchanged points as The Banner girls lead 1-07 to 0-04 at the break.
Orlaith Duggan took control of the game in the middle of the park as Clare continued to dominate and but for some stern defending from Maria Mooney they could have raised the green flag for the second time when Roisin McMahon found herself in behind the Derry backline.

Eimear Kelly also went close but Derry’s stand-in ‘keeper Aoife Ni Chaiside was quickly off her line to see off the danger. Chole Morey broke the deadlock when she burst through to handpass beyond Ni Chaiside.

Mary Kelly came on for Derry and she provided a real threat but once more the Clare back line remained resolute with their half-back line Kathleen Horgan, Marie McGrath and Orlaith Duggan snuffing out the threat of McGoldrick who was pushed forward and substitute Mairead McNicholl.

Derry continued to battle and were rewarded for their efforts when Kelly added the deftest of touches to Meabh McGoldrick’s ball into the square to send the ball past Denise Lynch in the Clare net.

McGoldrick added a fine point from distance but Fiona Lafferty put the game to bed when she collected the ball on the 21’ before firing into the top corner of the net to leave it 3-13 to 1-05.
