In a week that has seen Nicky O’Connell and Davy O’Halloran depart the Clare Senior Hurling setup, manager Davy Fitzgerald has been hit with more bad news with the confirmation that midfielder Colm Galvin is US-bound for the summer.

Quoted in today’s Irish Daily Mail, Galvin’s club manager Sean Stack of Clonlara said the news is “very disappointing”.

“It’s a huge decision on his part. If he goes before a certain date in May he can be deemed a local player before other players are brought over for the summer.

“The GAA are paying lip service to the plight of the clubs. The fact that that the GAA can pass a sanction allowing a player to leave and play in America instead proves that,” said Stack.

Reports suggest the 22-year-old Clonlara man will link up with the Tipperary club in Boston.

It is unclear if Galvin will feature for The Banner in tomorrow’s do or die Allianz National Hurling League clash with Kilkenny in Nowlan Park.
