Man critical following Knockalough crash

A 23-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital following an early morning crash.

The single vehicle collision happened at around 8.15am at Knockalough between Kilmihil and the main N68 Ennis to Kilrush road.

Emergency services raced to the scene while the Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) air ambulance was also requested to attend the incident.

The young man, who was alone in the car, was airlifted to Cork University Hospital in a critical condition.

The R484 was closed for several hours following the collision. A forensic examination of the scene was carried out before the road was reopened at around 1.30pm. The car was also removed from the scene for a technical examination.

Gardaí at Kilrush are investigating the collision and have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 065 9080550.
