While the popular Japanese brand took first spot, the most popular model advertised was the Ford Focus. Nationwide, it is Volkswagen that comes out on top, as it is the most popular car in 22 out of 26 counties, making it the most advertised car on DoneDeal in Ireland. In Clare it was the second most popular car brand advertised, followed by Ford in third place.
The DoneDeal research showed that roughly €20.1 million worth of cars were advertised on DoneDeal and sold in Clare throughout 2014, with 4,277 cars in total advertised through the website and sold. The average price of a car sold on DoneDeal was € 4,861 which is a little thriftier than the nationwide average of €6,560.
Stats also show that Clare people prefer petrol to diesel when buying second hand cars, with 4,679 petrol cars advertised compared to 3,385 diesel cars. This is at odds with the rest of the country, where diesel comes out on top with 291,297 diesel cars and 236,066 petrol cars advertised overall.
The research also looked into the most popular car colours. Clare’s favourite car colour is silver followed by blue and black respectively. Clare was definitely not the only county that liked its silver cars; every single county showed silver as the most advertised colour on DoneDeal in 2014. Additionally, it looks like 2002 was a good year for car sales in Clare, as it is the most popular car year advertised on DoneDeal, while the average year across the whole country was 2005.

The research also revealed some interesting figures regarding the nation as a whole. In 2014, a whopping €3.9 billion worth of goods were advertised on DoneDeal’s motoring section, up from €3.3 billion in 2013. The overall number of cars advertised on DoneDeal and sold in the country in 2014 was 315,524, which amounted to a value of €2.3 billion. The total number of visits to DoneDeal’s motoring section in 2014 was 140 million, up an impressive 53 million from 2013. Additionally, stats show that the average visitor spends 13.05 minutes looking at the motoring section.
