Kilkishen’s Colin Crehan has been crowned All-Ireland 40×20 Intermediate Men’s Singles Champion after overcoming the challenge imposed by Offaly’s David Hope.

A huge crowd gathered to Kilbeggan handball court in Westmeath to see a tense and entertaining contest between the pair. The contest itself lasted over one hundred and fifteen minutes with Crehan taking the honours on a 6-21 21-11 21-15 scoreline.

Some stylish shots off Hope’s left hand allowed the Offaly man to take control of the first game. All was not lost for Harty Cup medallist Crehan as he recovered well with some excellent kill shots along with some strong overhead returns to force a tiebreak. Those present at Kilbeggan were treated to a real feast of handball and were on their feet for the final game as the more balanced approach employed by Colin Crehan denied Hope the title.

Clare’s Crehan is being dubbed as one of the most promising young handballers in Ireland at the moment and that is evident alone in the fact that he has claimed an All-Ireland Intermediate title at the age of nineteen. His doubles teammate Niall Bolton of Tulla will be hoping for similar success when he competes in the All-Ireland U21 final.
