Nash Bows Out In All-Ireland Semi-Final

Diarmaid Nash

Clare’s Diarmaid Nash has bowed out of the All-Ireland Men’s 40×20 Senior Singles at the semi-final stage losing to Armagh’s Charlie Shanks.

Shanks got off to a pulsating start leading 12-3 early on. The power of the Armagh’s serve proved to be troublesome for Nash as he took a while to get settled into the tie. Shanks was very effective with all his shots off the backwall which was very noticeable on the scoreboard. Tuamgraney man Nash struggled to get points on the board when serving in the first game and Armagh man Shanks emerged victorious 21-11.

Current Munster Champion, Diarmaid Nash started the second game with intent as he led 16-15 causing Shanks to take a timeout in order to slow down the Clareman’s momentum. Ulster Champion, Shanks levelled the tie at 17 apiece and pushed on from there to secure his place in the All-Ireland final winning 21-17.

Key to the Armagh man’s victory was his ruthlessness as Shanks capitalised on every opportunity presented to him. Similarly he was superb off the backwall. On the day, the better man won but this still doesn’t take away from a positive season for Diarmaid Nash. Westmeath’s Robbie McCarthy will take on Charlie Shanks in the final after he overcame the challenge of Meath man Brian Carroll 21-7 21-6.
