The organisers of this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ennis are looking to the community to nominate the Grand Marshal in recognition of the work he/she does in the community.
Parade Coordinator Ger Sweeney said: “Our theme this year is “Celebrating Our Community” so let us celebrate as many aspects of that as we can. Every community has its hero or heroine so we want to hear about them. These are people who work tirelessly and usually without reward for the good of the people in their area or specific sector. As our community gathers on St. Patrick’s Day to celebrate the national day it is fitting that one who works hard for their own community should be recognised and celebrated.”
In previous years the Mayor of Ennis has been the Grand Marshall. The current Mayor of the Ennis Municipal District, Cllr Johnny Flynn will escort the Grand Marshal in the horse-drawn carriage as they travel from the starting point of Áras an Contae an Chláir to the revue stand in O’Connell Square.
Commenting on the search for a Grand Marshal in Ennis this year Cllr Flynn says “as Mayor I am delighted to escort the Grand Marshall to the review stand. When celebrating our community there is no doubt that we need to recognise those who work day-in day-out to better their own particular area and the lives of those with whom they live or work. I encourage everyone to look around their own community and identify the person or people who are truly making a difference in some way and take this opportunity to have that contribution recognised in a very real way”.
Clarifying the call for nominations Ger Sweeney says “we are looking for members of the public to nominate the outstanding people who are driven to make a positive difference for others in the various micro communities that together shape and benefit the overall community in Ennis”.
The Parade Grand Marshal will be chosen by a panel of judges that is representative of life in Ennis and will of course take into consideration the number of times one individual is nominated along with the essence of the work that he/she does to benefit the local community.
Nominations will close on Monday 9th March and the Grand Marshal for the Ennis St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be announced on Friday 13th March. Nominations can now be submitted to the parade organisers through email on email@example.com
