Clare Junior Soccer Review and Fixtures – Feb 23

Waterlogged conditions on pitches across Clare saw many of the weekend’s local soccer fixtures cancelled. A few games did go ahead, however. Oliver Fitzpatrick reviews the action.

Husqvarna Maloney Garden Machinery Premier Division
Bridge Celtic 0-3 Bridge United A
Bridge Utd kept their title hopes alive after overcoming a spirited Bridge Celtic side in wet and blustery conditions in Bridgetown on Sunday afternoon. In an opening half of little quality it was the home side who came closest to opening the scoring when their keepers long punt bounced over John Mulready in the Bridge goal and just cleared the crossbar. The visitors were far superior in the second half and Kieran Quinlan gave them the lead on 55 minutes when he lobbed the keeper after a Pa McMahon through ball. The lead was doubled on 70 minutes when Darragh Fitzgerald made no mistake from 12 yards after the ball broke to him from a Jay Whyte free kick. Quinlan got his second in injury time when Mark Culbert laid the ball and Quinlan curled the ball left footed to the far corner to wrap up the victory.

Bridge Utd A: John Mulready, Barry Downes, Eoin Guinan, Darren Murphy, Jay Whyte, Eric Carr, Darragh Fitzgerald, Pa McMahon, Noel Collins, Mark Culbert, Kieran Quinlan Subs: Christy Carey for Collins, Billy Maxwell for Downes, Johnny Hayes for Guinan

Moher Celtic 2-1 Coole FC
Moher Celtic turned in another good perfomance to come from a goal down against Coole FC in Liscannor on Saturday to remain top of the U17 League. Coole went in front on 20 minutes but 2 goals from Simon Keane were enough to secure the victory and the 3 points on the day.
