Boston musicians in return visit to Clare

TULLA-BOSTONThis week sees a visit to East Clare of 15 young Boston musicians along with their tutors and families.

Twinned with another 15 students from Mary MacNamara’s Music Room in Tulla, this 30-strong band of young musicians will add some colour and verve to music sessions in Tulla, Feakle and Bodyke from tomorrow until Saturday.

This visit is part of a twinning process between young American and Irish musicians, developed between concertina-player Mary MacNamara in Tulla and flute-player Lisa Coyne in Boston.

It follows on from a delightful visit to Boston by the young Irish musicians in November 2014. The Irish musicians are mostly members of the All-Ireland winning u-12 Tulla Ceili Band at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2014.

They were given a reception at the Irish Consulate in Boston, and played a gala concert to a  packed house at Tommy McCarthy’s renowned Burren Bar in Boston.

Well known American-based musicians like Jimmy Noonan (whose parents come from Flagmount), Kathleen Conneely, Lisa Coyne and Sean Clohessy will travel with the Boston troupe on their trip.

On this visit there will be a Gala Concert in the Courthouse in Tulla, on Wed 18 February at 8 pm.

Other sessions at which the public are invited include:

The Cobblers Rest in Bodyke on Tuesday night 17th February, (led by Pat O’ Connor, John Canny, Brendan Hearty)

John Minogues in Tulla Wednesday night 18 February, (led by Mark Donnellan, Charlie Harris, Jim Corry)

Gerry Shortt’s Feakle on Thursday night 19 February (led by Seamus Bugler, Pat Mullins)

East Clare Golf Club, Bodyke, Friday night 20 February (led by Eimear Donnellan, Aisling Hunt, Sinead Mulqueen)
