A fortnight of dry weather is on the way thanks to a high pressure system building over Ireland.

While it remain chilly for much of the period with some severe night-time frosts, day-time temperatures are expected to return to near seasonal values.

By the coming weekend, high pressure will be centred directly over Ireland giving long spells of sunshine.

Meanwhile, Met  Éireann says Shannon Airport recorded 135% of its monthly sunshine average during January even though rainfall was also 28% above average.
