People’s Debate Coming To Ennis

The Auburn Lodge is the venue tonight for the much publicised ‘people’s debate’ hosted by Vincent Browne. All those wishing to be in the audience are welcome to attend from 19:00.

Fine Gael has confirmed it will not be putting forward any representatives for the debates. This means that both Clare Fine Gael TD’s Pat Breen and Joe Carey will be absent from tonight’s debate. The Labour Party have admitted they have some concerns with the proposed structure of the debates while Sinn Féin are still in discussion after they raised some issues about the show earlier on in the week.

Clare’s remaining TD’s Timmy Dooley of Fianna Fáil and Labour’s Michael McNamara are set to take part in the debate. Presenter, Vincent Browne has stressed that the debates are not General Election debates but they are in place to give the people of each constituency a chance to raise issues with their local TD’s.

TV3 are declining to comment on the decision of Fine Gael not to participate in the debates or how they will cope with their absence. The debate takes place tonight but will be shown next Wednesday night on TV3.
