Clare GAA Chair calls for rethink on fixtures

clare gaa jerseyClare County Board Chairman Michael McDonagh has called for rethink of the fixtures schedule for intercounty and club games.

The Miltown Malbay clubman says the All Ireland Championships should commence in April and be completed by late July to enable club championships to be played off during August and September.

Mr. McDonagh says he believes that Club and Intercounty league campaigns should be played off between January and late March, while ancillary cup competitions such as the McGrath Cup and O’BYRne Cup should be discontinued.

Mr. McDonagh said the current situation was untenable for hurling and football clubs throughout the country whose league and championship campaigns were being seriously disrupted by a drawn out intercounty schedule.
