One year on from Storm Christine

On this day (January 6th) exactly one year ago, much of the coastal infrastructure in County Clare lay in ruins following an intense Atlantic Storm.

In fact, Storm Christine was the latest in a series of low pressure systems to bring heavy rain, winds and tidal surges towards the west of Ireland. Lahinch, Kilkee, Carrigaholt, Doolin, Quilty and Fanore were among the worst affected locations.

Niall Cosgrove captured the above images of Lahinch. The left image shows the Promenade on the morning of January 6th 2014. The right image is from the same angle and was captured this morning, January 6th 2015.

The below images show the devastation wreaked by the storm in Doolin, Kilkee and Lahinch.
