Cyclist killed near Portumna

gardaiGardai in Borrisokane, Co Tipperary are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the Borrisokane to Portumna Rd N654 today.

The collision occurred at approximately 9.30am when a car was in a collision with a 72-year-old cyclist at Lahinch on the main Borrisokane to Portumna Rd, roughly 3km outside Portumna.

The cyclist was seriously injured in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will be carried out later today.

The 51-year-old female driver and sole occupant of the car was uninjured.

The road is closed pending a Forensic Collision Examination and diversions are in place.

Gardai in Borrisokane are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 067 27101, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.ara
