Clare volunteers in Limerick river search

Clare’s three Irish Coast Guard units have been involved in the search in Limerick for a man seen falling into the River Shannon earlier this month.

Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident on Friday, December 5th. Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Service was also launched to assist in the search.

The Killaloe unit has been involved in the search since first light on the morning of December 6th while the Kilkee and Doolin units of the service have also been involved in the operation.

Other services who have taken part to date include Limerick Land Search Unit, Limerick City Civil Defence, Nenagh Ormond Land Search Unit, Boyne Fisherman Dive Units, Bunratty Search and Rescue and the Garda Under water Unit.

Mallow Search and Rescue has also been involved in the operation using their high-tech sonar equipment to search the river bed while land teams have been walking the river banks in search of the missing man.

The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 1-1-5, was also involved in the early days of the massive search.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, members of the Killaloe Coast Guard Unit were called into action when a member of the public called to the teams communications trailer reporting that a woman had suffered a fall nearby.

Two volunteers from the Killaloe unit, along with members from Limerick Land Search Unit, went to help the lady who had fallen down several steps.

First aid was given by members of both units unit a HSE ambulance arrived.
