A surfer reported overdue was found safe and well near Lahinch yesterday afternoon following a search.
The Irish Coast Guard marine rescue coordination centre at Valentia Island in Co Kerry was alerted to the missing surfer at around 3.00pm. A concerned family member raised the alarm when there was no sign of the surfer returning to sure.
The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard was alerted and requested to search several popular surfing locations in the vicinity of Lahinch. The family member could not give an exact location for the surfer.
In the meantime, the Kilkee unit of the Coast Guard commenced a search in the Spanish Point area.
Soon after searches had commenced, a Coast Guard volunteer located the surfer safe and well just south of Lahinch.
The search was stood down while the surfer was reunited with the anxious family member.
