Approximately thirty people attended the Sixmilebridge GAA AGM which saw county title winning manager of 2013, John O’Meara retain the hotseat as manager of the senior hurlers.
The AGM had been postponed the week before due to the sudden bereavement of Mary Anne McInerney and a minutes silence was held for deceased members of the club as a mark of respect.
Thorough reports were given by the top table of Secretary Louise Corbett, Treasurer Joan Keogh and Chairman Paddy Meehan. The minor club also gave a report and this was relayed by Kieran Keating in the absence of Chairman Mikey Quinn. Club coaching officer Michael O’ Halloran also gave a run down on the underage setup and progress to date in creating a homogenous coaching structure in the club.
Patron Fr. Harry Bohan said a few words commending the club for the effort of the volunteers. Paddy Meehan echoed those words and gave a special mention to those involved in the Bingo and Lotto which are the main fundraising avenues for the club as well as all those who have helped out in the club in 2014. He commended the U21 team and management for their success in winning the championship against Ballyea, the senior setup who put in a tremendous effort again but lost out narrowly to the finalists, the Intermediate setup who lost out at the semi final stage to eventual winners Feakle, the Junior A setup who took a league final to a replay against Clonlara and maintained Junior A status and the fourth adult team, the Junior C setup who lost out to a Wolfe Tones team who subsequently withdrew from the championship.
The work of the club coaches in helping out at Kilmurry and Sixmilebridge National Schools was commended and it is hoped that this will continue into 2015. Successes at underage and in camogie were also recognised on the night with the U14 success in winning the championship and Féile and Marie McGrath winning an All Star as well as a nomination for Chloe Morey. The county representatives were also recognised especially those on the All Ireland winning U21 setup.
Planned developments are due to take place in both O’Garney Park and the Cappa Lodge facilities in 2015. The position of assistant PRO has yet to be filled while no management teams have been appointed for the Intermediate, Junior A and Junior B teams.
