A young woman escaped serious injury today after her car overturned at a notorious accident location near Inagh.

The single-vehicle accident happened at around 12.30pm about 1.5 kilometres from the village on the R460 Miltown Malbay road.

The woman was travelling alone in a Ford Focus which is understood to have lost control, spun around and overturned into a ditch.

The incident occurred on a winding hill following a heavy downpour of rain and at the height of a storm that has been battering the west coast. It’s not know however whether the conditions at the time were a factor in the accident.

Two units of the fire brigade and gardaí from Ennistymon along with two ambulances from Ennis attended the incident.

Fire crews stabilised the vehicle before assisting paramedics to safely remove the woman from her car. She was treated at the scene for minor injuries and removed to hospital for further examination.

The road was closed for a time and traffic diverted away from the area.

The area has seen several accidents in recent years with cars leaving the road and crashing into nearby fields during spells of bad weather.

On December 20th 2012 a driver had a lucky escape when his car left the road in almost the exact same location and overturned into a muddy field.
